P6 Response to The Discorded Food

In this paper, Pollan firstly discussed the food issue in the America nowadays, how people think about the Carbophobia as well as the food fad in people’s minds. As the disorder of food appears in Americans’ lives, people began to judge the food in different ways and aspects, do a lot of research to discuses the characters of the food that Americans take almost every day, such as bread. The fascinating social history of American food ways contributes to the specific food culture in the United States. As he writes in the paper, Americans have learned to choose their foods by the numbers (calories, carbs, fats, R.D.A.'s, price, whatever), relying more heavily on our reading and computational skills than upon our senses. Since the obesity issue has become one of the biggest concerning in Americans society nowadays, American would be more likely to choose foods for reasons of health. However, yet the French, more apt to choose on the basis of pleasure, are the healthier (and thinner) people, as they have a different focus and based on their own situation, the French may be more likely to pay attention to the pleasure they can get from the foods.

As I posted in last time, I think I would prefer the traditional Chinese food. The sitation is China is actually entirely different with the situation in the United States. American soeak highly of the culture freedom; however, China has been demonstrated by the Confucianism principle for about 5000 years. Although There are mainly eight famous Chinese cuisines in different parts of China, however, the core value of these cuisines are the small, and people judge these 8 cuisines in the same ways. And the education in the China about the culture is pretty similar. So actually, the food in china is not as disordered as it in the United States. However, there is one thing that Chinese pay attention to when they are eating is similar to the Americans-Healthy. So the traditional, rural Chinese diet is based on a high intake of plant-based protein, low in dietary cholesterol, and low in dietary fat, and it contains a large amount of nutrients from plant-based foods rather than animal-based foods.
